UFC President Dana White says Latin American themed ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ a possibility

During a media tour to promote UFC 168, Middleweight champ Chris The All American Weidman, former champ Anderson The Spider Silva and UFC President Dana White visited Miami, stopping by the Klipsch Amphitheater in Bayfront Park on Friday, Sept. 27. A Latin American themed “The Ultimate Fighter” reality TV show could be in the works, but the current focus is Weidman vs. Silva 2 at UFC 168 on Saturday, Dec. 28 on pay-per-view from Las Vegas.

The two previously met at UFC 162 with Weidman winning via knockout in the second round to gain the title. White also told Rodolfo Roman, host of The Roman Show, that the company has been eyeing this region since the beginning. “We have been doing that since the first day we got involved with this company,” he said. "The Hispanic market has been important. Some of the greatest fighters in history have been Hispanic.”

He added that from the top of his head he had no idea on who would serve as the show’s coach, but he is sold on having UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. White added that Hispanics over time could dominate mixed martial arts. Moving forward, White said he was satisfied with the support from fans in South Florida. “Anytime we can get out and hang out with the fans, I love,” he said. “People are telling me they drove from different crazy places; its awesome.”

Plus, its looking bright for the Sunshine State to host another UFC event. “We will come next year. I am not saying Miami but Florida definitely,” he said. The UFC brought an event last year to (South Florida) Sunrise. As far as UFC light heavyweight champ Jon “Bones” Jones who had a competitive fight against Alexander Gustafsson, he said pairing Jones and the No.1 contender Glover Teixeira, who trains in (South Florida) Coconut Creek, makes sense. “Jon won that fight,” he referred to the Gustafsson fight. “[Jones] wants to clean the division. He wants Glover next, and then he’ll fight Alex in the rematch.” Jones is scheduled to defend his title against Teixeira early next year.
